This is a very light weight roof rake. The head is very light and the handle is light and flexible. Neither of these are problems if you are using them on light snow's like a couple inches of wet heavy snow that hasn't frozen to the panels or a bigger accumulation of soft fluffy snow. It will not touch wind blown drifts or accumulations that have setup or crusted over. This needs to be used religiously after every snow fall or very strategically on warm days when things melt free and are can be broken up.

I was told you did not need to clear the panels when I bought them, but after my first snow storm (1 inch), I came home on a sunny day, and my system was in night mode. So I found this rake, and ordered it. I have used it after all the other storms, and even on a cloudy day after a snow storm, I am producing power. Looking at the head, it should not scratch anything, the only thing you could worry about is dropping it hard on the panel, and hitting the pole tightening nut, but I think that would be fairly unlikely.

I would definitely buy again, however the next time I would buy the pole locally, as the shipping was ridiculous, Home Depot sells the same pole for the same price, but shipping killed me went from a $80 sale to $112, FedEx made more than roof rake on this one. However the box was 7-8 feet long, so I know why it cost so much.

I found out that this is the right tool for clearing snow from your solar panels to avoid any damage due to the soft firm edges of the roof rake head. This is a good investment since solar panels are very expensive. I recommend this rake for that purpose.

The rake works great, but two things I've noticed. One with the heavy snow we've had near Chicago, the head is not heavy enough and just seems to float over the drifts on my solar panels. Second, I think that if the angle of snow scraper where different so that when pulled it would dig into the drift. Maybe sell and adapter to go between the pole and the head.

This was a birthday gift for my husband. Only complaint he has is how tired his arms get from holding the rake above his head to clean off the solar panels. Arms get cold and numb.
